Understanding the Difference Between the Woodlands IVF Versus IUI

Getting pregnant naturally can be a challenge for some. Couples, and even single people, may need medical intervention to conceive successfully. That’s where IVF and IUI come in. Both are artificial fertility treatments that help fertilize a woman’s eggs. Our North Houston fertility clinic may recommend one of the two to aid in your fertility journey. The Woodlands IVF just involves more steps, but the two can be both effective. So how do you know which treatment is right for you? Read on to know more about the difference between IUI vs IVF.

What Is IVF?

IVF, or in vitro fertilization, is a form of assisted reproductive technology that involves retrieving a woman’s eggs from her ovaries. The eggs are fertilized in a lab using the sperm of the intended father or donor sperm. Viable embryos undergo strict genetic testing to increase the chances of a healthy baby. They are tested for genetic disorders, such as Down’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and more. After testing, the embryos are transferred to a uterus. The uterus can be that of the intended mother or a gestational carrier.

What Is IUI?

IUI, or intrauterine insemination, is a type of assisted insemination. Sperm that has been concentrated in a lab is directly transferred to a uterus. This can be done during ovulation. The goal is for the sperm to swim into the fallopian tube and fertilize an egg. The result should be a pregnancy. IUI is usually done due to male and female infertility. For the man, it could be that he has a low sperm count or low motility. For the woman, infertility can be caused by cervical or ovarian problems. The Woodlands IUI is also recommended for same-sex couples who want to conceive.

Which Is More Successful?

Generally, North Houston IVF rates are higher; however, it isn’t that simple. Every body is different, so certain factors affect your likelihood to conceive. These include age, medical history, and other health conditions. Some doctors will recommend trying IUI first if you have unexplained fertility. You will usually go through three or four rounds of IUI before your doctor suggests the Woodlands IVF option. HART Fertility provides individualized IUI and IVF treatments using the latest technologies.

Which One Is Right for You?

IUI is a less expensive procedure and also less invasive. This is why our fertility specialists may opt to try this out first. Your doctor may also suggest going straight to IVF if you meet the qualifications. At HART Fertility, we will perform thorough and detailed examinations, making sure to give you personal attention. We even offer second opinions for free.
